Metamorphosis of the Darkling Beetle: ask your child to explain what they learned today.

Alex explored the room as the students learned about metamorphosis of the creatures that Alex eats on a regular basis.  Also, the pet monitors assisted Ms. Tipton in cleaning his cage.  We want him to have a clean environment.

Our phonics skill lessons for the day: es, and ies

We practiced adding the correct plural ending in our agendas.  Endings are recorded in blue.
On Mondays the students work on their growth goals with partners.  We are looking back at the text to locate the key details.  We are learning to spell the answers correctly. Students refer back to the text to locate the correct responses.  Ms. Tipton is helping students locate the information within the text.
We are now on chapter 11 of Charlotte's Web.  I am looking for the DVD/movie of the book.  Please contact Ms. Tipton is you have a copy that we can watch it upon our completion of the book.  We will be finished with the story before spring break.
We learned a clock song today.  We discussed the importance of being able to tell time, and we learned about the various types of clocks.

We enjoy singing as part of the learning process. All students learn in different ways.  I feel that it is important to introduce them to a variety approaches to learning.
The students should all be able to identify a digital and an analog clock. They should be able to identify the hour and minute hand.   Each student has a clock homework assignment that requires them to log their hours of sleep each nigh.  The worksheets are due on Friday.  We will learn about a.m.  and p.m. tomorrow.

Progress reports will be coming home next Monday. Ms. Tipton met with each child today to explain their progress to date.   Be watching for their progress report on Monday.

Students made Layton Morgan's students of the week page.
We read an exciting event in our whole group reading:   " Some Pig" are the code words for viewing the blog. Don't forget to whisper them in Ms. Tipton's ear on Monday.  Also, any typing error that they students find in the blog and tell me the next day earns them an extra Dojo.
We are back to our whole group reading and book study.

Some of the students are the readers of the pages.  This is a higher level book and designed to meet the needs of the top readers, yet the activities are geared toward every student.  The comprehension sheets are part of our student growth goals.

We learned about the spring equinox today.  Ask your child to explain what equinox means.  It will take place today around 6:45 p.m.

We had a lot of fun shooting for the extra points.  Every student participated in this activity.

Ask your child to explain how many shoots that they attempted.

Here are all the students that made at least one extra shoot!    We will shoot every Friday.
Have a safe weekend, and enjoy the warm weather.

Kayden was the first student to bring in some seeds.  We  need at least 2 packets of seeds from each students.
We are working on learning our basic math facts fluently.  Please continue to work on facts nightly.
We are using a program entitled the " Great Body Shop".   Students are learning the importance of eating health, exercise and the parts of the body.

Students are working with their teach partners to share something special about themselves.  Then the teach partner shared what they learned about their friend.

GO BIG BLUE!!!  The game is way to late for me to watch, but I hope to be celebrating tomorrow.  The students will each get to attempt one "extra" point for every addition test that they have passed to date.  So if your child is now taking the mad minute math +7 test.. they will get 7 shoots.    This will become part of our Friday fun math activities.

March 18

We are working hard on learning the long i sounds of igh and y.

Students are cashing in their rewards that they purchased with their Dojo points.  Several students purchased "dips on the computer."

We are working on focus  movement activities prior new lessons.  The large range of motion movements activities allow students time to "get their wiggles out" and to help engage the brain for learning.

We are learning about possessive nouns.

Students should know that when a noun ends in s it is ok to place 's or just an apostrophe at the end of the noun.  Both ways are considered correct.

We are watching a variety of powerpoint lessons to help us learn the phonics rules of igh and y.

Ask your child about the partner read the room math activity.   We worked on commutative properties of addition today.

Kona Ice visited our school today.  The students enjoyed this special treat.

 Today's Code word is Apostrophe.

Mrs. Sparks learn the working on words rotation today.    They students played headband phonics.

Ms. Tipton is working with small groups on their student growth goals.
