Holiday Performance

Zoey and Max spent the day together.
A girl has Max tomorrow…it's his last day with us!

Elfie made some new friends in the reading corner.
Tomorrow is his last day with us too.
Wonder where he will be??

The K/1 concert was great!
My two favorite songs were "Feliz Navidad" and
"Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer".
What were your fave songs?

This is mostly Team Tipton children…way to  sing class!!

Tomorrow is our last day of 2013.
Can you believe it???
Our play is at 10:15.  Hope to see you there.
Ms. Tipton may try to come if her back is feeling better.

Don't forget your book if your child is doing the book exchange.  It should be wrapped
with a tag that says-  To: a girl or boy
From:  your child's name

Today your child should have brought home a holiday surprise for you and a card from me.
There were also two handouts about the Dad's breakfast and Box Tops.

The children did go to library.  If you are traveling over the holidays  make sure the books get back
to the library after break.

Tomorrow is my last day…more later….

Thanks to Ms. Tipton, Ethan, Zoey, Jacob, and Brody for all they provided for that
treat for our class.

Zoey's mommy was our  special guest reader.

Twas the Night Before Christmas.
Zoey and her mom brought candy canes for the class.
Thank you!

Monday is the k/1 concert at 12:30.

Four more days!

Elfie was hiding today!
Luckily some children were able to smell the Christmas Cookie aroma and located  Elfie
hiding in one of Ms. Tipton's tubs.  We are not certain why he was hiding but he wrote
"help me" on the container.  Poor Elfie.

Brody and Max spent the day together.
Brody always tries hard and is a good friend to others.
Way to go Brody.
Max is with another boy tomorrow…is it your son?

We worked all morning and took a movement break.
We danced to Kids Now "Despicable Me" video.
I love it!
I tried to upload a video of our Grinch Song.
It isn't working.
We can try again tomorrow…Sorry

We worked so hard today.  After specials we created a Grinch Grin face
to be displayed outside and then did more work with common nouns,
proper nouns, and pronouns.
HARD WORKERS!!

We practiced with our play props today from Ms. Tipton.
The children did a
FABULOUS
job!!
Way to go Team Tipton!!

We have everything we need for our Grinch day on Friday.
We could use some more fruit for our class party on Tuesday.

The book exchange note came home today.

Hope everyone had a great evening!!

Busy, Busy, Busy!!!

Sydney and Max spent the day together.
Sydney is always following the class and school rules!!
Tomorrow, Max is with a boy.  Who could he be?

It seems Elfie is super excited about our play.
This is the second day he has mentioned it!!
We have done "read-thrus" the past two days and the children are doing great!
Keep practicing at home!!
Tomorrow and Thursday we will work with our props, positions on stage, and our
actions that go along with words.  Friday and Monday will be our dress rehearsals.
You are going to LOVE this play…it's so cute!

Here's Lincoln showing off his wreath of candles.
Ask your student about this tradition in Sweden.

All of your children worked hard making this craft.
It had lots of steps and they did so well!!

Here's Annabelle with her wreath!
Ask your child about the traditions from Mexico, Sweden, and China.
This will help as we begin our writing assignment tomorrow.

Miss Collier surprised us today!!
What a treat!!
She brought each child a small stocking with a candy cane.
How sweet!!

Ms. Collier has been so wonderful to teach the children this semester.
She will be missed.

We wish Ms. Collier the best of luck with her teaching career.
She will do great!!

We had many other special activities today.
We went to computer but it was cancelled as 5th grade was MAP testing.
Your children accepted the change in schedule and did great!!

We went to Music for our special class, but then learned they were practicing for the K/1 concert in the gym.
Once again, your children rolled with the change!
Their performance is Monday (12/16) at 12:30 p.m.
I hope you can attend,

We had classroom guidance this week.
Mrs. Rogers checked on us to see how our tattling was going.
It is getting better.
Her lesson was about "careers" and how your "job" is similar to "school".
She asked the children what they wanted their career to be.
Do you know what your child wants to be when he/she grows up?
They all have great aspirations!!

A note about the book exchange was sent home today.
Please respond if your child would like to participate.

Thank you to all who have signed up for treats for the Grinch and class party.
My apologies about trying to sign up on the blog.
It seems it just doesn't work.
So please send an email to me if you can bring something for our party.
My email address is amy.scarboro@fayette.kyschools.us

We have everything we need for our Grinch hot chocolate party Friday morning.
Thanks to those who volunteered!

For our class party, we still need fruit, tortilla chips, salsa, and pretzels.
Thanks to those who have already volunteered.
I think Ms. Tipton left the DVD for a "Charlie Brown Christmas", so we will enjoy
our snacks and watch the movie the last hour on the 17th.  If you would like to come help
and hang out with us, just let me know.

Lots to do in 6 days! Date of class party changed…see beloE

Elfie was with "Snowy" this morning.  Elfie misses the snow, even though we got a little bit this weekend!
He also told the students he was excited about their play!
Maybe Elfie should have a role?  Mention this to your child and we can vote for a part the students suggest!!

Connor is our Star Student this week.
He got to spend the day with Max.  They had a pretty good day together.
Tomorrow Max is with a girl…is it your daughter?

This is a picture of our class finishing their passports for the study of Holidays Around the World.
We have a school-wide writing assignment this week.
Team Tipton students will have to choose their favorite country and state reasons why.

We did have library today.  Connor and Breanna got compliments from Mrs. Blankenship.
Way to go!!
They will have library next Monday!  Please return books.

We had a super great day with our hallway compliments.  On our way to library, three teachers complimented us!!!!
Ms. Shepard, the Japanese teacher, said they had a fabulous day!

We started fresh on our DOJOs.  Table five  is in the lead with the most.  Congrats to Table five-

Pajama Party Friday

It's finally our DOJO reward party!!
Pajama Day is here!!
Rayyan was one of the first students to get to work bright and early Friday morning.
Sometimes it's hard to settle in when there is excitement in the air and special activities….
but not for Team Tipton!!
They all were super serious students before the fun movie began.

Elfie was ready for Pajama Day wearing his very own hand-made pjs!
He is watching over our class.
As a matter of fact, our DOJOs have been set to zero after the party and Elfie has
already informed Ms. Tipton who should start off with DOJOs tomorrow morning.  I am not certain how many
each student as earned…so take a quick peek!!

Nadeer and Max spent pajama day together.  It was a great day for both of them!!
I wonder who will have Max tomorrow????

The students are all cozy on the floor and ready for Charlotte's Web!
Thanks again to Ethan for loaning his movie to us!!

We all enjoyed the movie.
If your student told you I cried…it's true!!
I am an animal lover and was so worried about Wilbur in the
beginning and sad about Charlotte in the end!

There was an extra incentive for the students to earn DOJOs.
I told them the top five people would get a bonus!
Maya, Sydney, Jake, Ethan, and Mimi had the MOST DOJOs of the entire class.
They earned a Hershey Kiss candy AND something very special.
I told the students they were already important to me, just like my own 19 year old daughter.
I found holiday books that she had gotten in first grade.  Each of the top five DOJO students got
to select one of her books to take home.
All of your children are VERY special to me.
Thank you for sharing them!!

*************
NEWS FLASH!!!

We will send invites this week as we see how how practices are going.Ms. Tipton hopes to attend the performance and has a special
treat for the children.

***********
May I ask for Help?
************
Whenever I need to know class procedures I always say "I need help.  I need help"
The boys and girls graciously explain class procedures to me.

We have lots  going on the next 7 days.
Another teacher suggested I have sign ups for what I need on there blog as I did not know how
to utilize the VOLUNTEER website.  I hope this goes okay.  So PLEASE sign up if you can.

We will be reading the GRINCH this week and doing activities related to the story.
On Friday, Dec. 13, we will have our "Grinch" movie and class party.

Pop! Pop! Pop! Pajama Party!!!

Elfie made another mess!  He and Santa thought it would be a good idea to study spelling for the test
tomorrow.  We have been playing a fun game with our spelling words at school.  You can play at home with only
two people but more is better.  Ask your child about our game!!  Spelling test IS tomorrow right before
we watch our pajama movie.

Mimi and Max spent the day together.  She taught him how to say the Pledge with his paw.
SO CUTE!

This is our class with our serious faces in the morning about trying our best all day especially at
dismissal  It did go more smoothly today.  There is room for improvement but I explained to the
boys and girls that we always have room for improvement!

THE BIG NEWS IS….drum roll please….
the principal was in our class today and she told us that it made her heart HAPPY
with how the children were listening to "Charlotte's Web" and were answering questions!!
Way to go Team Tipton!!!!!!!!!!

Look at all the children who made it to 100 DOJOs!!  Today it was revealed that someone actually had over
200 DOJOs!!  Was it your child?
A huge incentive has been that there are prizes for the the top five people with the most DOJOs.  Those children will be
revealed at the end of the day tomorrow.  After tomorrow, everyone will go back to zero DOJOs and try to earn the next
reward.  I am not certain if it will be before or after the winter break.
We received an email from Ms. Tipton today.  She was super pleased with out compliments and progress but was a
little sad about our dismissal.  Even while she is away from school she will be adding DOJOs with  help from me and Elfie.

The great news is that everyone has earned the pajama party and hopefully shared their invitation with their grown up.  I have been popping popcorn tonight and it smells so good!!  If  your child does not enjoy popcorn please send an additional snack for the afternoon.

We made our final draft of our letter to Santa for our opinion paper about the "best toy".  The letters are signed and
sealed by the students.  Many of them remembered their addresses from the test two weeks ago but some did not.  This is such important personal information to know so we will practice at school and will appreciate support from home.
I have my poinsettia stamps and will put the Santa letters in the mail tomorrow.

Speaking of poinsettias ask your child about the heart-warming story that was read today for our study of Mexico.
Thanks to Eber and Maya for sharing a few of their traditions as well.

It was a great day today!!
Amy S.

MAX, Elfie, DOJO, Charlotte's Web, and the Grinch

Elfie was super tired from traveling to and from the North Pole!
He made a little bed out of tissues!!!

Ms. Tipton left Max, the dog, from the "Grinch" as a special treat.
Each day Max spends the day with a student.
The student has been chosen based on positive academic or social behavior!
Nicholas earned Max today.

Jacob earned Max yesterday!

Jake earned Max on Monday.  Jake was chosen first as he had the most DOJO"s
of any student in class.  Way to go Jake!

Mimi has been super helpful to me with the DOJO's.  She has been inputting the points to help me out.
Right now everyone has above and BEYOND the 60 DOJO's required to attend
the pajama party on Friday.
Big thanks to Ethan for loaning us his "Charlotte's Web" DVD.  We are reading this story during
snack time.

Today we had a few setbacks with student's losing DOJO's for making bad choices, especially during dismissal.
It's important to follow directions and be quiet while preparing to leave school.
We have announcements to listen to and we want to be sure we hear any changes in bus numbers, etc.   I sure do not want anyone to miss his/her bus!
If you have a moment, please speak with your child about the importance of a smooth dismissal.

We had a super special treat today.  Mrs. Prather began our unit for "Holidays around the World".
She took us on an airplane ride to China and we learned about some traditions from that
country and culture.  Thank you Mrs. Prather!

We will study Mexico tomorrow and Sweden on Friday.
Then, next week we begin the activities centered around the USA and the "Grinch Who Stole Christmas."
We will also begin our play and will be sending the script home tomorrow and auctions will be held
on Friday.

Have a wonderful evening!
Ms. Scarboro
