Frog, Cows and Money

Wow!  It's hard to believe that we only have 7 more days of schools.  Team Tipton students are continuing our learning up until the last minute.  We had an extremely exciting day of knowledge.

Don't forget that every first grade students will participate in our primary talent show tomorrow at 1:00 and 6:00.  The 1:00 show is just for the school.  We would like to invite the families to attend the 6:00 SBDM elections and short PTA meeting that will take place prior to our performance.    PLEASE ARRIVE AT 5:45!!  Students can come to our room.  Parents are welcome to go on to the gym.  Students will be sit with us during the performance.
Since the girls are frogs- we would like them to wear jeans and a green top.  The boys are cows -please have them wear jeans and a white or black shirt.   ( Don't feel obligated to purchase something new.  We are just trying to have  everyone coordinate, if possible.)

We enjoyed making our costumes for the talent show!!

For our movement break we are working on the dance moves that go along with our song.

We had a special cookie treat from Ms. Tipton.  The cookies went along with our literature club activities:  I can identify the 4 different sentence types.
Delk was the guest reader today. He captured the attention of his audience with his Sponge Bob reading. Nice job Delk!

Here is  today's teacher Read-a-Loud and literature club book.
After our direct instruction time the students participated in the Scoot 4 Types of sentence activity today.

We traded our papers with a partner and graded their work.  Students also took turns reading the sentence statements and teaching us the correct sentence type.

I can count coin values.    Our day 8 treat was money bingo.   Students played one round on their own, and a second round with their math buddy.

Ms. Johnson stopped by to help a few students with adding coin values.  Thank you for your help.

Money Counts

Spelling words for this week:    ( These are the words we will be using through out the week.  No formal spelling test this week. Assessment will be done by the teacher throughout the week.  I will be monitoring informally.  )

List one:                                      List two:

coin                                              moist

join                                               choice

spoil                                             voice

boil                                               annoy

foil                                                loyal

boy                                              void
joy                                               royal
Today we studied facts about money.  Each table explored money, who is on each coin/bill, and the importance of making good choices when spending our money.

The children discovered that each state has it's own quarter.
We made flip books about the various types of sentences.

Parker was our guest reader. He brought a book that helped us identify the 4 types of sentence.  He did a wonderful job reading to the class.
This is an interrogative example of a test.  Questions are interrogative.
This is a declarative sentence.  It is a statement.
This is an exclamatory sentence!!!
For the 8th day countdown the students got to work in pairs on Language Arts folder games.  The games reviewed all the phonic skills that we worked on throughout the school year.

Whole group reading was amazing today.  We read Amazing Animals.   An informational text that included a table of contents and an index.

We are working hard on adding coin values.  The class played scoot today. Each table had a different amount of coins.  Ask your child about this math game.

We have been collecting gold coins since March.  Today was the first opportunity for the children to trade their coins prizes.  The coins functioned just like real money.  Make sure to have your child show you their purchases.
