Next week we will work on contractions:   Phonics assessment will be over the following contractions: she's, isn't, he's, didn't, couldn't, I'll, I'm, it's, that's, don't
sight words: from, because
Bonus Words:  you'd( you+would)  we'd ( we+would )  Students will need to explain the two words that are used in the contractions.

Students are solving their subtraction problems and taking turns explaining their work to the class.

Layton read to the class on Thursday.  He did an excellent job of reading fluently and with voice.
Students are using the text to locate that answer to the comprehension questions.

Thursday's count down reward was sidewalk chalk.  We went outside and practiced our weekly phonics skills.

Many students are asking about division. They are interested in understanding the concept, so we are exploring various ways to figure out the answers.

Here are all the students that received Dojo's for returning their weekly homework. Remember that this week we worked on compound words, the suffix ly, and reading fluency.  A huge thank you to all the parents and grandparents that are partnering with our school to assist your child with reading.  Reading the passage three times to an adult has greatly increased every students fluency.  You are making a huge difference in your child's life.
Ask your child about how we assessed this week's phonic skill.  I recorded the scores of each individual child, so a weekly hard copy will not be coming home today.   We had a lot of fun spelling.

Ms. Betsy stopped by to see what we were doing in Team Tipton.  We love when staff members visit our room.

The bonus words were left up to individual students.  They got to spell a word of their choice for the entire class.   "number chart" was Camryn's word
 transformers was Layton's word
 fantastic was Macy's word

resurrection was Nicholas's word.. Hey Nicoloas, can you locate your error?
Friday reader of the day was Jordon.  Jordan brought two books to read.  He was very engaging as he read.

Today's science lesson was about the layers of the earth.  Ask your child about our lesson.

We enjoy making a page for the student of the week book.  The class has to use their writing skills to make a page for Cameron.
The sentences have to include the reason the Cameron is a great star student.
Cameron got to utilize the extra computer time while everyone made his book.

We thoroughly enjoyed our MAP ice-cream reward celebration.
A huge thank you to every family that donated the toppings.  We appreciate your help in providing the students with this special treat.  Every student made gains, so we all got to participate.  A special thank you to Mrs. Vaughn for volunteering to help set up and serve during the reward celebration.

Bubble reward from the Balloon count down.
We showed off your math skills to Mr. Counts.  He stopped by to see what was taking place in Team Tipton.  We played our first game of around the world math addition/subtraction.

Word of the day: code word for reading this blog.  Text, email or whisper the word to Ms. Tipton for dojo rewards.   Remember if you locate any errors in the blog you also get Dojo's .
I have a Dr.'s appointment on Monday.   I will not be at school.  Please remind your child of the Hearn/Team Tipton  Expectations.  I hope to reward them for their excellent behavior upon my return.  No School on Tuesday.  I'll see the students again on Wednesday.    Watch the blog, newsletters and emails for reminders about our student lead conference day.   Student led conferences will be on Thursday May 28th at 10:45.  Please plan to join our class, and stay for lunch if time allows.
