Wellington is named as a Distinguished Kentucky School

We want to welcome Megan Collier to Team Tipton.  She is studying Education at the University of KY.  She will be working with us on Friday's!  We are delighted to have her as part of our team.
Ask your child to explain  how these two women are related.  Here are the predictions that our class made today: " They are sisters."  "They are twins."  " They are in the same family."
It is a time of GREAT Celebration at Wellington. The K-Prep testing results were made public today.    Ms. Meribeth Gaines returned to help us unveil our special banner.   Wellington it preforming better than 90 percent of all the schools in KY!!!!   Wow!!

Ms. Gaines had a very special message for all the students.  She discussed that not only are the students at Wellington distinguished academically, but also as a people.    She stated that
being Kind, respectful, helpful and polite are what make each Wellington child part of this distinguished class of students. We can all stand proud as we represent Wellington in our community.

Today was " Hop Into Learning" day.  We focused our Friday Fun learning on the life cycle of a frog.  Students rotated through various centers while they learned all about the life cycle of a frog.  A big thanks to Brody's grandmother for helping us today.

MAP Testing is complete.    I will share the results of our child during our conferences the week of Oct. 21-25th.

Families of Fact

At the beginning of the year we reviewed all number words an numerals.  This is now a center.
Today we learned about fact families. Your child should bring home their exit slip today.

We also wrote an On Demand opinion piece today.    I am conferencing with each child regarding their work.    Over the past 5 weeds : We learned to state an opinion.   Support the opinion with two reasons
and use a letter format to convey the opinion.  This activity will be available during conferences and is now part of your child's writing portfolio for this year.

Today was KY KIDS DAY!!  The children had a special dance to class Tuesday.

Here are all the children that participated in dressing like their favorite star.

We all enjoyed walking the red carpet.

We used this opportunity to have the children write  an opinion piece about which movie that felt that we should view today.  They had to state two supporting reasons.  The movie that won we Disney's Robin Hood.

Mental Images

Tomorrow if Kentucky Kids Day.  Students may dress up like their favorite star and walk the red carpet.

Our first Super Star Student is Mimi Santalucia .  If you see her, please congratulate her for being a great role model for other Wellington students to follow.

A huge thanks for Ms. Verba and Ms. Stewart for stopping by and lending a helping hand today.

Each Monday at 9:00 our class attends library. Today we learned how to access ABC train from the Wellington Media site.  The students will be using this site in the daily five rotation this week.
Please remind your child to return their library books each Monday.

The website helps the children work on the skill of ABC order. It begins with the basic Alphabet letters and progresses  to the second and third letter being the same in words.  Each child will be working on a developmentally appropriate  curriculum based on their current abilities.

We want to thank everyone that was in attendance of our Grandparent's Day.   We enjoyed sharing and making projects with you.

The students enjoyed the Make It Take it project.  Make sure you ask your child what "teachable moment" Ms. Tipton asked the Grandparents to explain to their child.  I always have to include a lesson. ( It was an introduction to the punctuation mark- (') apostrophe.

We talked about the life cycle of a butterfly this week.  We made a model out of the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar  by Eric Carle

Short 'O' was the phonic sound of the week.  The student assessment centers were all geared toward this skill.

Ollie the Octopus helped us all learn the short 'O' sound.   Stop by the room and view our creations. And believe it or not, this was a test.  I'm just sneaky in the students showing me what they know.

We want wish Connor Lusardi a very Happy 7th birthday on Saturday.
