Mark your calendars now for our  "Penguin Informational Sharing" day.  We would like to invite families to join us on Feb. 27th at 11:15 for our next "Grow our Skills" show off day.
Students will: share a play, songs, poems and informational research projects about penguins. We hope everyone  can attend.  We will begin at 11:15.  Feel free to join us for lunch at 11:50-12:15.   More information will be sent home soon.

We want to thank Mr. Lee for being such a gracious "loser" in the pie in the face Boosterthon challenge.  He received 3 pies in his face today.  We also want to thank every person that made this fundraiser a success for Hearn.   You helped generate close to $10,000 for our school.  The money will be used to purchase an iPad lab and playground equipment.

Students participated in the vision/health screening on Friday.  The school nurse will only contact families if a follow up to the screening is necessary.

The students prepared their bottles for the "Penguin" craft creation. Keep in mind that these crafts will be part of a research and creative writing activity for the remainder of the month of February.   A huge thank you to:
  •  Gannone family for donating the socks and play sand
  •   Epperson family for donating the snack /foam for the penguins
  • Davenport family  for craft materials
  • Every family that sent in a bottle/lid for this craft.
Your time and devotion to our class is greatly appreciated!

Students worked in pairs on the Penguin Preposition Scoot Game.  As your child to explain this learning center.

The students took a formative assessment on prepositions.

Everyone earned the Friday Dojo Reward of eating in the room ! We are especially proud of each student for their hard work during these cold days.   Thanks for continuing to remind your child of the Hearn expectations on a daily basis.

Mr. Clem was the Hearn Watch D.O.G of the day.  Consider volunteering to be a part of this program.  It is a great way to assist and get a better inside view of the learning that takes place on a daily basis at our fabulous school.  Contact Mrs. Pam Tate for more information about this program.

We want to  thank Mr. Clem for providing the music portion of our celebration. We integrate the "arts" into our learning on a daily basis.  Please contact Ms. Tipton if you would like to share a talent with the class.

Students followed Ms. Tipton's oral directions to make a mystery snack.  It was a penguin cookie.

Thank you to every adult that assisted your child in making a Valentine box.  They were all very creative.  The students had a great time sharing their cards and practicing their reading skills.

Thank you for sharing a day of love with me. I appreciate all the extra chocolate, gifts and cards that the students gave me.   It warms my heart to be in a profession that is so rewarding.

Movement activities help increase brain power!
Each child should have brought home a class list of names for their valentines. We worked on upper and lower case letters and proper nouns while we can post our list.

Leslie is our pet monitor and she has been taking good care of Alex

Students are enjoying the class read aloud time. We are reading the chapter book Eve of the Emperors Penguin.
Camyrn's  dad stopped by and brought a special treat for her birthday.

We are enjoying learning about non-fictional information.
We have conducted many experiments. Ask your child to explain the blubber glove activity.
Students are learning that reading, math and writing are important to social studies and science too.

Mr. Counts  met with the children to help them learn to make good choices and accept consequences.
The students will receive additional drama lessons over the next 6 weeks.  Mrs. G will be coordinating lessons with Ms Tipton.   We look forward to presenting to play for you about the Penguins.   Watch  future  newsletters for all the details.
