Field Trip Tomorrow

We will be attending "Charlie Brown's Christmas" at the Opera House tomorrow.   Prior to leaving we will eat sack lunches in our room. Your child can bring a lunch from home, or order one from the cafeteria tomorrow.    Our departure time is around 10:45 and we should return around 1:30.   We have asked the students to wear appropriate attire for attending a performance at the Opera House.

We have a visitor from the south pole.  He brought us some decorations for our room.
The students wrote a journal entry about what we should name our visitor and why.

We selected the top three names and voted to find out the new name for our friend.

 Sparkles won the vote.
Andy Mann is the Super Star student of the week.  If you see him, congratulate him on being a Hearn Leader.
We are working on various subtraction strategies. We modeled part/part/whole: using students to represent various fact families.
5 plus.....
 4 more......
Equals 9 total students.   Then we wrote the fact family : 4+5=9, 5+4=9, 9-4=5, 9-5=4
"I can subtract to 20 using counters" was one of the skills that we introduced today.

We also used our counters to solve for the missing addend.   Number bonds, fact families, and counters are all strategies that aid the students in solving subtraction facts.
