Class Trip to the Opera House

Our trip to see "A Charlie Brown Christmas" was a huge success.  We reviewed audience expectations prior to leaving.     Most students earned 10 Dojo's  for their excellent behavior. Ask your child to tell you how many dojos they currently have accumulated.

We had a discussion about how different countries and cultures celebrate the holidays with a variety of traditions.   As a class, we made a list of winter holiday from the world.  We listed: Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Yule, Polo Voladare, and  Las Posasa.     We will learn about all of these and more during the remainder of December.
If you have a holiday tradition that you would like to share with our class please contact Ms. Tipton. We would love to have some guest speakers.   It's always wonderful to learn about different countries and their cultures.

Although it was a short day in the classroom, every literature club met.    The Cardinals are reading aloud to me daily and I'm collection reading data on each child.  I am doing running records on all the students this week.  I am  assessing reading with expression and reading fluency.  Please encourage these skills at home as you read with your child nightly.
Compass Learning is in full swing during Literature Time.

Our  weekly phonics study is "silent e".  Please make sure that your child is working on the spelling words each night.

Make sure and ask your child about their experience of attending today's play.

We sat in the upper balcony level today.

I was a pleasure to see our class dressing for today's event. We represented Hearn Elementary in great fashion.
The reading log is not due until Dec. 19th.  Please keep in mind that if your child is reading a chapter book, they can record each chapter as one book.   They do not have to read  6 complete books.     All other students need to log at least 6 books for the month.  They will receive a pizza coupon upon completion of the 6 books. This program is supponsored by Pizza Hut.
The weekly reading bags are coming home with each child.   Math homework is due by Friday.  Please encourage your child to practice fact families nightly.
