Mrs. Collier stops by every morning to greet the children. Today she modeled her fabulous hat for the class. We really love having her stop by and visit. The children enjoy sharing what we are learning. It also helps them verbalize the "I can statements " and expectations for our lessons.
Megan Collier got some first hand experience with classroom management today.
Student used their individualized book bags to pair/share read with a buddy. Two books are assigned to each student on a weekly basis. The books are given to each child according to their reading level. They also get to add one or two books that they select. Children are given the opportunity to read on their own, in small group, and with another student.
Take a look at how our class "Put a Lid On Drugs!"
We worked on Geometry all week. As you know, the children went on scavenger hunts, learned about flip, slides and turns, and used tangrams to great various pictures.
Many students used the tangrams to create their own pictures. They then orally described the shapes that they used in their creations. They had to use the correct plane shape name and tell how many of each shape that they used in their creation.
Ask your child about the mystery rock person of the day. Have them describe how it is used, and when we use the rocks. Here is an example of one of the rocks.
The "Great Pumpkin" is watching for students that excel in work habits. Today's award winner was Ethan Dunn. Each student receive a homework pass and a small treat inside the pumpkin. It will continue looking for hard ,respectful workers next week.
Sydney and Wedd really enjoyed making their own creation.
Stop by and see our symmetry bulletin board. Ask your child to describe flips, slides and turns that they used in their creation. Each child should be bringing home their mammal creation, written description of mammal characteristics, and their Family of Facts math houses.
Have a fabulous weekend. Here is the code word: " Symmetry"
