Number Sense to 120

Camryn Kelly is the super star student of the week.
The class is studying the phonic sounds oi, oy.   We will assess this skill on Friday.

Here are this  week's words: coin, soil, point, oil, moist, voice, choice, toy, boy, destroy, only enough   Bonus: boiling, annoyed
Our plants changed over time.  We now have sprouts, stems, and leaves,  Some students have seed pods on the top of their plants.

We are learning how to compare and contrast adventures of characters in stories.  We read the traditional fairly tale on Monday.  Each day we are reading a fractured version of the same story.
Students read pages aloud to the class.
Cameron is our attendance clerk for the next 2 weeks.
Darrian and Mikeih are taking care of Alex.
Elin is our mailbox helper.
Lena and Lily are in charge of calendar. Every student has a job in our room.  We rotate the jobs every 2 weeks.
We are working on missing addends. We used various manipulatives to help us find the missing number.   We are reviewing all skills that we have learned in K-1 grade.  This will help the students be more familar with concepts during MAP testing.  MAP Math  will take place on May 8.

We enjoy making the daily incrediable equation various ways.
Students generate different ways to make the daily number.
Here is one of the fractured version of our fairly tale.  Ask your child to tell you the differences in the adventures of the characters and the setting.
Students are working hard on their personal narrative. They are writing about a short moment in time that took place over spring break. Ms. Tipton's story was entitled Ranger NO!!!   She modeled her personal narrative for class prior to the students writing their stories.   We are learning to "hook" the reader.  We want to grab the reader's attention.

We are completing patterns.  It is important for the students to understand the rule for the pattern.   This is also included in their weekly math homework.  Homework is due on Friday!!     Keep in mind that we are always working the same skills that are sent home for independent practice.  If your child is struggling with the homework, please contact Ms. Tipton. She will work with them at school.

Students reviewed number order , greater than, less than, and  equal to.

Stop by and visit our new hallway display.   We used our writing skills during math time.

We are reviewing many math concepts through our daily calendar activities.
Students assist at calendar time.
We make incrediable equations at various develpmental levels.  Several students are now able to multiple and divide.  Keep in mind that this is not a first grade standard, but I teach to the various levels in the room.
Josh Kelly was the watch dog for the day.  He is Camryn's dad.  We were glad to have him visit our room first.
Students completed their personal narratives today.   Many students had conferences with an adult about their writing.

We learned how to peer edit a writing piece today.  Students were grouped with their "teach parnters" to read and evaluate their peers writing.

Our class recieved a special treat for our hard work on writing skills.  Ms. Patti lead the class in a game of Dodge-ball.  We want to thank her for including Team Tipton in her daily schedule.

We are learning about rhythm  patterns and the value of notes.  Ms. Tipton uses a variety of attent to getter gain the attention of the students.
Students reviewed for our math assessment.  We actually completed every question during our review session.  Our test will be tomorrow.

Hint. Hint,
I am providing the assessment for anyone that would like to review the test with our child.   The pages are out of order, so students can't simply memorize the answers.
