Autumn Leaves Are Falling

Prisilla is the Hearn student of the month and our class Super Star Student.  She is reading the comments that our class our class stated about why is is a great role model.

We have added some new "Making Words" center items.  This week the class enjoyed using the jumbo letter tiles to practice their spelling words.
Ms. Tipton wants to remind everyone that we have weekly reading assignments.  The Panthers Club did not meet on Friday, due to the Autumn leave walk and lessons.  We will meet on Monday .

Please practice Doubles math problems daily.  We will move on to doubles plus one facts next week.

The students enjoy playing the ball toss game.  Each student is given at least one chance to play.  Ms. Tipton tosses them a ball, they identify the number listed on the ball, double the fact,  say the complete problem out loud, toss the ball back to the teacher and the class echos the correct addition problem.

Mr. Hurley was our watchdog visitor on Thursday.  He assisted students in several ways.   He checked agendas for notes/parent signatures, circulated  to assist students with practicing the spelling words...

and led a small reading group. We want to thank him for stopping by and helping us grow.

This week we practiced the -ick phonics words through the use of a power point presentation.   Our phonics skills are improving daily.
Don't forget to fill out the spelling homework log sheet each week.  Check your child's B.E.E. binder for some suggestions for engaging ways to practice phonic skills.   Record which options that your child selected on the weekly log sheet.

We started a new chapter book this week. The class is reading Charlotte's  Web.  We have a class set of books, so students are following along with Ms. Tipton as she reads.  Every day we select a new word of the day from the book.   Injustice was our word on Thursday.
Pricilla received the student of the month award on Friday.  She is a child that "begins with the end in mind" in her daily routines.   I am always watching for new students to represent our classroom in a possitive way!
The " I wonder" leading questions of the day.
Ask your child to  tell you what autumn leaves and a banana have in common.
We explored all classifications of leaves.
Students learned how to identify the correct name of each leaf.
All leaves do not turn every color.  We know that Sugar Maple display green, yellow and brown only.
We took a walk around the school to put our new knowledge of trees and leaves to practical use.
We even know how trees help animals.   Ask your child what two animals we saw today on our walk.    (Trees give animals shade on hot sunny summer days AND  also provide shade for humans. )

The students all know where the roots of all trees end.    Ask your child to: explain how they can tell where the roots of a tree stop, the difference between deciduous and evergreen trees.  the various colors that leaves change  ( most students even know the scientific name of the colors), and what causes the trees to lose their leaves.
Enjoy your weekend!!!  Be safe and be ready for another fun filled week of learning on Monday.
