Mr. Lee will get a Mohawk tomorrow

To our delight, Hearn Elementary had the highest attendance last Wednesday.  First grade had the highest attendance in the school.  Tomorrow morning the first grade teachers get to shave Mr. Lee's hair into a mohawk.  Watch the blog for future photographs of the event.

Don't forget that the Slice of Summer homework assignment is due tomorrow.  Student will begin the pre-writing stage of the writing process.

Here is the book that we read as part of our phonics study today.
Ms. Tipton is meeting with individual students to assess their ability to retell a story that was read to them.  The rubric focuses on individual students being able to retell the main idea and key details of the story.    We are also assessing beginning middle, end, setting and central idea of the story.
During the daily five centers students are:  highlighting the short "i" words in Iggy the Iguana

Working on sight word recognition and oral reading
and  reading the room for the short "i" word cards.

We completed our first chapter book during read-a-loud.
We are rapping up our number bond math lessons and we learned about making number to 10 using 3 numbers.
The groups  of students represents one part of the number bond.  2+1+3= 6

Each student completed a number bond problem for Ms. Tipton.  I assessed individual students.  When a student does not understand the concept they become part of a small reteach group on the following day.
