Zoey was our 1st student reader. She did a fabulous job reading one of her favorite books to the class.
Jenny Lutchenko is the Super Star Student this week. She is proudly displaying her chart in the hallway.
Reading clubs are meeting daily. We are reading a variety of leveled readers.
Today was a day, so we had indoor recess. The students enjoyed their movements activities.

1st grade Zoo Chaperone Meeting –12:45 and 5:30 p.m. Library or Art Room
May 7th – Wellington Blood Drive – libraryMay 9th- Parent Volunteers needed to assist with Bugz scenery 4:00
May 12th- Parents needed to hang the panels for the Bugz play- 5:00
May 13th – 1st Grade BUGZ performance 1:00 & 6:00 p.m. GYM
***Students will need to arrive at 5:45
May 15th- Field trip to the Cincinnati Zoo
May 17th – PTA Carnival – Volunteers needed
May 22nd- Student Lead End of the year conferences (Parents may drop by the room from 3:00-5:00. Each child will lead their own end of the year progress conference) More details will be sent home at a later date.

We will not have a spelling test next Friday. We will be reviewing all -r controlled phonic skills next week. Bossy R- ar, or, er, ur, and ir.

We will continue our units on Rights and Responsibilities and addition and subtraction.
Students have all had a chance to be the teacher this week. They have modeled how to solve addition and subtraction problems.
Ms. Leslie taught a cooperative addition lesson . Ask your child what team job that they had during the lesson.
Enjoy the beautiful weekend and please have your child work on their lines for the Bugz play. We do not have reading homework, so read books that you enjoy.

Zoey is modeling the correct response for our contraction review lessons.
Ask your child to explain our subtraction poem.
We all have pledged to take care of our Earth. Stop by and see our new persuasive bulletin board.
We learned about authors purpose this week. Today we learned how to write a persuasive piece.
Tomorrow will be from work to school day. Students may dress as a chef,soldier,nurse,lawyer, hair dresser, or even the president. Dream big and be creative as you dress for a future job!

Celebrate the Arts Night
Don't forget that tonight is Celebrate the Arts Night. It is a school-wide Art show, musical performances, and drop-in activities hosted by the Special Area teachers. Between 5:30 AND 7:30, you can enjoy any or all of the activities. The Kindergarten and 1st Grade Chorus Performance will be at 6:00.
The Book Fair will also be open during the Arts Night.
On Wednesday we will have " Tip Your Hat to Hard Work". Students may wear a hat from a college, university, or from a job site.
Mark your calendars for our BUGZ performance on May 13th at 6:00p.m. Please notify me if your child will not be able to attend. Every child has a part in the play and we want to make sure that they all can attend in that evening.

Today was our closure to the fairy tale unit. We played a scoot cumulative game.
We reviewed the 24 fairy tales that we learned about during this unit.
Ms. Tipton acted out the fairy tale: Hansel and Gretal today.
We are proud of every student that received an award today. Keep in mind that we give out a limited number of awards each semester. Every student will receive at least one award each year.
We concluded the unit on Growing and Changing today also. We read about how to properly plant seeds.
Then each student planted their own garden. They will monitor the progress of each of their plants over the next few weeks.
We compared and contrasted the size of seeds.
Today was also share day!!
