Penguin Unit

Spelling words for next week:  -ake and -ale word families

Group One: fake, rake, sale, shake, tale, old, what

Group Two: sale, pale, male, make, cake, wake, Jake

Our class will be making penguins in the near future.  We are asking for donations of the following supplies:
Laundry detergent tops, an empty ( clean) two liter bottle from each students

It would be wonderful if one to two families would donate packages of long white tub socks.
Also, please send in any extra laundry tops that you might have at home or can gather from family members and friends.

The students are also allowed to bring any extra supplies that they wish to use to decorate their penguins. For instance: old unwanted jewelry, beads, sequence, pipe cleaners...   Anything that they wish to use on their penguin.  We will be making them on Jan. 22 and we will need lots of help.  Please mark your calendar for 8:00A.M  on this date.
We will be writing stories about our penguin creations on Friday the 24th.

While we are studying about polar climates and animals we will be conducting lots of hands on activities.  Ask your child why lots of pipes burst after cold weather.
We started our unit of study by learning about the earth's rotation around the sun.  We also learned how the sun shines closer to the equator, and we now understand daylight and night.

We voted on the name for our second frog/tadpole.  We graphed our results.  Swimmy won by 1 vote.

Today is Abby's 7th birthday.  Please wish her a very Happy Birthday.
Each student will be a meteorologist for the day.  Make sure that your child brought home the worksheet. Be as creative as you wish with this project.   Next week the following children will be presenting the daily weather:   Monday Jan. 13- Zoey, Tuesday Jan. 14th- Ethan, Wednesday Jan. 15th- Wedd, Thursday Jan. 16- Adam, Friday Jan. 17th- Connor.
